Hilda was born in the FACS Farm pasture on a cool March day. There was still snow on the ground. Farmer Tyler and Farmer Brenda had a busy ‘calving’ season, as their herd of 100 Hereford heifers all gave birth to healthy calves.
Hilda is reddish brown in colour, with a white face. Soon after Hilda was born, she began nursing. This ensured she received all the necessary nutrition. Hilda remained in the pasture with her mother, where she ate the pasture grasses and continued to nurse. When she was six months old, she was weaned from her mother and turned into another FACS Farm pasture with the other heifers. In the fall Farmer Tyler and Farmer Brenda haul large round bales of hay out to the pasture so that Hilda and her friends have lots to eat. |
